Interested to be a Licensed Electrical Worker?
 

To be a Licensed Electrical Worker (LEW), you must have good knowledge of domestic, industrial, commercial, temporary electrical installations. This includes knowing the electrical installation turn on/testing procedures and relevant legislation and best practices to follow. General Knowledge
1)   LEW needs to comply with the legislative requirement stipulated in the Electricity Act and Regulation.
2)   LEW is required to repair a household appliance (i.e washing machine).
3)   The nominal voltage and frequency for a 3-phase LV electrical system is 433V, 50Hz.




Domestic Electrical Installations
4)   A general purpose 13A switch socket can be installed in the toilet if it is waterproof.
5)   A separate electric circuit has to be installed to power up a 3kW instantaneous electric water heater.
6)   The tripping time for a 30mA Residual Current Device (RCD) used for dwelling units shall be within 100ms at 30mA leakage current.




Industrial & Commercial Electrical Installations
7)   Short circuit withstand current of a 200A approved load must be less than 25kA.
8)   Electrical installations below 100A approved load will require RCCB as Earth Leakage protection.
9)   For supply connection >100A, a CT-operated meter is required.




Temporary Electrical Installations
10)  To set up a mobile generator (in accordance to the relevant code of practices) to supply electricity to an installation, need not install with TNS earthing system.
11)  All electrical installation at construction sites need not comply with CP88 Part 1.
12)  Construction site office and canteen electrical installation shall be complied with CP 5.




Electrical Installation Turn on and Testing
13)  The Earth Loop Impedance test is required to be carried out on Low voltage electrical installation after supply turn on.
14)  SP Group only carries out inspections and testing for domestic electrical installation.
15)  Electrical appliances (i.e lightbulb) shall be disconnected while carrying out insulation resistance test on the final circuit.




Legislation
16)  PV installation requirement can be found in the SS CP 5 amendment no.1.
17)  A licensed electrical worker is not required to carry out daily check and inspection for festive lighting events.
18)  A Permit-To-Work (PTW) can be issued by the Licensed Electrical Engineer (LEE) to any non-competent person (i.e contractors, vendors) working on HV electrical installation.
